Mystery of the taped-off Chorlton post boxes solved

A question that has puzzled the residents of Chorlton for weeks has finally been answered.

At least four post boxes in the area have been taped off with black and yellow hazard tape – one outside the Post office, one at Four Banks, one opposite the Spread Eagle, and the post box on Beech Road.

Locals took to social media to speculate as to why but no concrete answer was found.

After being contacted by Manchester Evening News , Royal Mail has now cleared up the confusion.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “The postboxes are temporarily out of service as they are awaiting new locks. This will take approximately two weeks.”

“Notices have been applied to the postboxes to explain why they are currently out of use.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers.”
