Mystery on Lancashire street as residents receive no post for two weeks

West Lancashire residents are growing concerned about Christmas deliveries – claiming that Royal Mail hasn’t brought any post for ‘almost two weeks’.

Michael Bullock, a teacher from Burscough, said that some people on his street – Hesketh Road- have not had so much as junk mail posted in the past fortnight.

The 38-year-old is growing concerned over Christmas deliveries and bills and said that post he knows was sent from Northern Ireland at the end of last month is yet to arrive.

Mr Bullock told LancsLive: “My parents sent cards to myself and both brothers (who live in the south of England) and they’ve received their cards. It could be the Royal Mail staff could be sick and isolating and no one is able to cover- but who knows?”

The whole ordeal, especially in the runup to Christmas, makes for an anxious household – while even the traditional Secret Santa at work might have to be put on hold for Mr Bullock.

He continued: “I am not feeling great at the minute, to be honest, not having received anything for so long. I’ve even ordered stuff for Secret Santa for work plus other bits and pieces and they haven’t arrived.”

But the whole ordeal is most troubling for his four-year-old daughter, who’s waiting on a Christmas card from her grandparents.

“My parents posted cards 10 days ago – for myself and one for daughter – and they haven’t come through our door, while my brother sent a birthday card end of November and that was never posted.

“Nothing either from Sky either – and they normally pester us with at least a couple of letters a week.”

In a tweet, Mr Bullock said to Royal Mail: “What’s going on with deliveries in the West Lancashire area? No post delivered in almost 2 weeks now and it’s the same for neighbours.. I got birthday cards and presents that were sent more than 2 weeks ago not arrived yet! Had parcels sent 10 days ago not turned up?”

Royal Mail account responded: “Unfortunately, it isn’t possible for us to check when specific areas will receive a delivery, sorry. We’re doing what we can to deliver all mail as quickly as we can in difficult circumstances.

“You’re only able to collect mail if we’ve left a ‘Something for You’ card. Despite our best endeavours, it’s likely that some areas of the country will experience a reduction in service levels due to Coronavirus-related absences.”
