Nebraska delegation responds to Medicare and Medicaid Services staffing proposal | News

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A new Medicare and Medicaid Services staffing proposal has prompted a response from Congressman Mike Flood and every member of the Nebraska Delegation.

According to Flood’s Office, the proposal includes phasing in new long-term care facility requirements for minimum staffing standards.

The delegation said it’s their concern that the proposed rule presents unique compliance challenges to rural states like Nebraska. Nationally, the long-term care industry is facing historic staffing shortages, which are forecasted to increase.

They said these shortages are particularly acute in rural areas. In Nebraska, 80% of counties’ RNs and Licensed Practical Nurses per capita are lower than the national average, and nine counties do not have any practicing RNs available.
