Nespresso UK has announced a new partnership with Royal Mail to improve household coffee capsule recycling across the country.

The collaboration means Nespresso customers in the UK can use Royal Mail’s doorstep collection service to return used capsules alongside the postal service’s 14,000 drop-off site network, which includes Royal Mail Customer Service Points and Post Offices.

To coincide with Recycle Week in the UK, which runs from 16-22 October 2023, Nespresso has also released research indicating that 42% of Britons find current recycling systems confusing, while 32% find it difficult.

“Nespresso’s official partnership with Royal Mail brings recycling to the heart of the community, no matter where you live in the UK. Royal Mail is not only an iconic British institution, it also is recognised as having the lowest emissions per parcel as their ‘feet on the street’ posties walk up to a billion steps a day. Recycling needs to be convenient, simple, and sustainable – and our partnership with Royal Mail is central to achieving that vision,” said Anna Lundstrom, CEO, Nespresso UK & Ireland.

Nespresso customers can also return their used capsules for recycling at any of Nespresso’s 26 boutique outlets across the UK, as well as via Podback, a coffee pod recycling service formed in 2021 by Nespresso’s parent company Nestlé.

Headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland, Nespresso operates in 74 markets and has a global retail network of 800 boutiques.

The business, which attained B Corp certification in April 2022, recently signed Third City as the first retained sustainability communications agency for its UK operations.
