Netflix has thrown its support behind Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as one of the company’s top bosses promises to back the Royal pair.
After their departure from Royal duties in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex inked an impressive £80 million deal with the streaming giant.
To date, four projects have been released on Netflix under their partnership, with much anticipation building for Meghan’s lifestyle series, “With Love, Meghan,” set to premiere on March 4. Despite the mixed success of their output and some wondering if their Netflix contract would be extended beyond its current term, Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria spoke highly of the upcoming show and the couple’s future contributions – describing them as “exciting”.
In a discussion with the Mail, Bajaria expressed her enthusiasm: “We have Meghan’s new show coming out, which is great.”
She further praised the project by saying, “It is such a great take on a lifestyle show and showcase for California, Montecito and nature. It really has great takeaways.”
Conveying her personal excitement, she added, “I was like ‘oh my God, I want to really do that pasta.’ There’s really easy great takeaways on life. I am really excited about that coming out,” reports the Express.
Although their docuseries “Harry and Meghan” made waves in December 2022, other ventures like Prince Harry’s “POLO” didn’t fare well, with some calling it a “flop” and “boring”. Yet, Netflix maintains confidence in the Sussexes’ upcoming projects.
Following the release of their Heart Of Invictus series in 2023, and other projects including Live to Lead and a controversial docuseries, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are still making waves on Netflix. The streaming giant’s senior executive confirmed that Meghan’s screen adaptation of Carley Fortune’s bestselling romance novel, Meet Me at the Lake, is currently in development, stating: “It is in development. It is a great book, she had it and we are happy to do it.”
She added, “And we have things in development. Everyone is excited about what is coming. I am really excited for her show.”
Interestingly, none of the Sussexes’ projects were mentioned during the presentation of Netflix’s major projects for the year.
These comments were made at the 2025 Next on Netflix Preview Event in Los Angeles, where comedian John Mulaney humorously compared his new chat show, Everybody’s Live, to the couple’s deal with Netflix. He quipped: “This is a really fun experiment. Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.”
Mulaney continued, “Like Harry and Meghan, there’s nothing but goodwill on my side. People are rooting for me left and right.”
