New Chipping Norton Specsavers sponsors football and cricket

Specsavers, set to open at 19 High Street in Chipping Norton this spring, has announced sponsorships for the Chipping Norton and District Cricket Club and the Chipping Norton Swifts FC U14 and U7 boys’ teams.

Store directors Sundeep Rana, Trevor Robinson, and Cathy Mullen said the sponsorships reflect their long-term commitment to the area.

Mr Rana said: “While we are still a little way off from opening, as a locally owned and run business, we were keen to get involved at a community level as soon as possible.

“It’s been the way we’ve always done it in Witney, and Chipping Norton will be no different.

“We’re thrilled to be opening the new store and delighted to be sponsoring both the cricket and football teams.”

The three directors have 80 years of experience in the optical sector and also run the Specsavers store in Witney.

An official store launch event is planned, with full details to be announced closer to the opening date.

Mr Rana added: “Once we open our doors, we’ll be focused on providing the very best eye and ear care to local people, but it’s about more than just what goes on within the walls of the business.

“We want to help make a difference to our community and support initiatives that help local people.”

Martin Elliott, treasurer at Chipping Norton and District Cricket Club, welcomed the sponsorship.

He said: “It’s fantastic to have Specsavers’ support. The shirts will be ready for the start of the season in April and it will be great to see the boys head out onto the pitch wearing them.

“It’s thanks to the continued support from local businesses that we can keep giving local people of all ages an opportunity to play cricket and be part of the community we’ve built.”

Liam Busby, chairman of Chipping Norton Swifts FC, said the gesture would have a lasting impact on young players.

He said: “Everyone at Swifts is extremely grateful to Specsavers for coming on board before the store has even opened, providing new branded kit for two of our teams and jackets for our coaches.

“This also includes helping our new Under 7s team get started and established ready for next season.

“Their support creates valuable opportunities for children to play football and makes a huge difference to both the club and the wider community.”

The new Specsavers store is expected to open this spring.
