New digital stamps to record videos of senders

Technological advancement has led to the production of the first of its kind—new digital stamps by the Royal Mail. The new stamps allow the sender to record videos. This all-new feature for traditional stamps will be available from today, 2 February!

The UK is producing stamps with digital barcodes next to the Queen’s photo. According to reports, the barcode would enable smartphone users with link access to videos.

Nick Landon, the Royal Mail chief commercial officer, said:

Introducing unique barcodes on our postage stamps allows us to connect the physical letter with the digital world and opens up the possibilities for a range of new innovative services in future.

Currently, upon scanning the barcodes, only a short animation of the cartoon Shaun the Sheep is played. But eventually, it is said to record the sender’s videos and other valuable information.

New features

Since the introduction of the Penny Black stamp in May 1840, this is the most significant alteration in the way mail is handled. The Royal Mail is currently available in a new colour palette for its First class, Second class and Large stamps.

The barcode is considered to allow Royal Mail to track and trace every item of mail. As a result, the barcode stamp will reduce the number of products that go missing or are stolen.

The Royal Mail app will connect the barcoded stamps with their ‘digital twins.’ This advancement means we are embracing the digital era with all its might.
