The opening of a brand new Christmas village situated on the banks of the River Clyde has been cancelled over safety fears. Clydeside Christmas Village was due to host its grand opening tomorrow in Glasgow’s West End.
The festive event is completely free to enter and promises the “ultimate one-stop Christmas extravaganza”. It was due to welcome punters for the first time on Friday, November 28 at its location on South Street, but is unable to.
The much-hyped launch has been waylaid due to weather as 75mph gusts are set to batter the west coast of Scotland this afternoon and into tomorrow morning.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning from 4pm today until 11am on Friday. As a result, bosses at Clydeside Christmas Village have taken the difficult decision not to cut the ribbon on the day they intended.
The village will now open a day later on Saturday, November 29 at 12pm. Staff are urging event-goers to check the village’s social media and website for any further updates as the country’s unpredictable wintry weather takes hold.
Organisers said: “Due to the high winds forecast for Friday, we have made the decision not to open on Friday 28th November. We will open Saturday at 12pm, please keep up to date via socials and our website.
“Your safety, and the safety of our team, is what matters most to us. If you have ice rink tickets booked for Friday 28th November you will receive an email shortly with more information and next steps.
“We can’t wait to welcome you to Clydeside Christmas Village.”
The jolly spectacle, situated near Partick Station just past Glasgow Harbour, is set to run until January 4, 2026.
Visitors can look forward to ice skating, festive food and drink, live entertainment, family funfair rides and plenty of Christmas cheer, creating the perfect place to celebrate the season with friends and family.
Santa is also set to swing by for the little ones, while grown-ups can kick back at the bar to the sounds of live entertainment.
