New home expected for Nuneaton’s Royal Mail delivery office ‘in months’

A new home is expected to be unveiled for Nuneaton’s Royal Mail delivery office ‘in months’.

There had been concerns that the plans to move the office as part of major regeneration plans for the Church Street area had hit a huge stumbling block.

It was feared that talks between Royal Mail and Warwickshire County Council had reached a stalemate and may not be resolved until 2023.

CoventryLive contacted the county council for an update on the talks.

A spokesman for the council said that negotiations were “complex” but they hoped to have an update within the ‘next few months’.

They added: “Warwickshire County Council and Royal Mail are working closely together to reach a successful conclusion for the relocation of the Nuneaton sorting office from Church Street to support and enable the regeneration of this area of the town centre.

“The complexities of the relocation, and required approvals/consents for a new facility, mean that this does take some time however progress is being made and we hope to conclude the negotiations within the next few months.”

It has been rumoured that the delivery office could be moving to a location in Bermuda Park.

But a Royal Mail spokesman would not confirm this.

Instead, they said: “We are working with Warwickshire County Council in relation to sites in Nuneaton.”

The current home of the delivery office in Church Street forms part of the parcel on land that will have to pave the way for a new almost £20m library and offices.

Nearby Wilkos is also looking for a new home and further claims have been made that this will be the former Wilkos store in Queens Road.

The regeneration plans in the area form part of the huge Transforming Nuneaton programme.
