On the eve of her state funeral, Buckingham Palace released a new photograph of the late Queen.
The Queen had spent most of her time over the past couple of years at Windsor, which became her main residence since the pandemic, and had long been imagined as her preferred ‘retirement’ residence, when she could no longer fulfill a full schedule of duties.
For the image, she choose to wear the matching aquamarine clip brooches, which were given to her by her father, George VI, and mother, Queen Elizabeth, for her 18th birthday. She also chose to wear them earlier this year on the platinum jubilee of her accession in February for the official pictures taken of her viewing memorabilia from her golden and diamond jubilees.
The two pieces were made by Boucheron from baguette, oval and round diamonds and aquamarines.
The late Queen also wore them when she addressed the nation on the 75th anniversary of VE Day, and for the Diamond Jubilee television speech in 2012.
In the image, the Queen was also wearing her three-string pearls, pearl earrings.
