New Post Office returns vital services to Leicestershire village

The new branch will also be open on Sunday mornings

Vital services have returned to a Leicestershire village following the opening of a new Post Office. Residents were reportedly “surprised and impressed” to hear the branch would be open on Sunday mornings too.

MP for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costo attended the opening of the new branch, which was celebrated with an official ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, October 31. The new Post Office will be located inside of a One Stop convenience store, situated in Croft Road, Cosby, near Blaby.

The new postmaster, Raju Goraniya, already has two Post Offices in villages near Peterborough, with this being his third branch. He is joint owner of Cosby Post Office with his cousin, Bharat Khunti.

This has restored Post Office services to Cosby after the previous branch in Main Street, closed in November 2022, due to the resignation of the postmaster. It also provides a place for locals to deposit cash and cheques, withdraw cash and check balances, as there are no banks in the village.

Speaking about the new branch, MP Alberto Costo said: “I want to sincerely thank Raju Goraniya and Bharat Khunti for investing in their great-looking new One Stop store and Cosby Post Office. This has restored much-needed Post Office services to this village.”

“I’m delighted that it’s opened before the busy Christmas period. The long opening hours make it easy for customers to visit. People can do their everyday personal and business banking here, send mail, do home shopping returns and pick up parcels and pay bills on their doorstep.”

The Post Office’s opening hours will be Monday to Saturday from 7am till 9pm, and Sunday from 7am till 1pm. This provides a total of 90 hours of Post Office services a week for the convenience of customers in the village.

Postmaster, Raju Goraniya, said: “Customers were excited to hear that Cosby was getting a Post Office again.”

“They were surprised and impressed when they heard the long hours from early until late and that our Post Office is also open on Sunday mornings. Customers think that this is fantastic news for the village.”
