The village of Stanhill, Oswaldtwistle, Accrington, Lancashire recently celebrated the 300th anniversary of the birth of James Hargreaves, who invented the Spinning Jenny in the village in 1764.
A sign has now been erected at the entrance to the village to mark the date.
The Royal Mail Group has also issued ten stamps to commemorate the Industrial Revolution, including one featuring the Spinning Jenny.
A joint service to recognise the life and work of James Hargreaves and to launch the biography of the Rev. James Butterworth, the creator of Clubland, was also organised by Stanhill Methodist Church at the end of September.
Richard Hooper, co-director of the Stanhill Village Heritage Project, said: “The Spinning Jenny sparked the revolution that led to the North of England becoming the textile centre of the world and the growth of the great mill towns in the region.
“Stanhill Village is very proud of this association and has already gained national and international recognition via its website, heritage trail, walks and talks programme and YouTube. The issue of a Spinning Jenny stamp adds to this in a significant way.”
