Residents on a Harrogate street say they haven’t had their post since last Spring thanks to the dangerous dog who was said to have bit the last postman.
Lucy Holland, who lives on the street, claims the problem has grown worse in recent weeks as the street’s residents now walk the long route to leave the street, going through ginnels and shortcuts to evade the vicious dog.
Lucy said: “When I first saw the dog, I didn’t think it was too bad – it looked scary because it’s really stocky and muscly, but I personally didn’t have negative encounters with it.
“We stopped receiving our mail and when I saw the postman on another street I asked why.
“He told me that Royal Mail weren’t risking any more of their postmen getting bitten, and that our street is ‘on hold.’
“He said we’ll have to collect from the main post office, which is a drive away until something is done about the dog.”
Lucy claims no-one on the street has had their post, and due to some being unable to drive, she’s having to collect neighbour’s post.
Lucy added: “I’ve spoken briefly to the owner of the dog and told her she needs to stop letting her dog wander around and that’s it’s not a nice dog.
“But she just said it wouldn’t hurt me – but I don’t know how on earth she can say that when it’s bitten at least four people and a dog.
“There are many children on this street and to get to school they have to walk down this hill.
“Most days starts with tears and fear as none of them want to walk past that dog and we never know if it’ll be out or not.
“So instead of going down the hill we are all having to go the long way round, down a ginnel onto the next street and down the big main hill.
“It has attacked a old husky that lives on my street and has apparently left marks on the husky.”
Others on the street have stated: ‘it’s an absolute nightmare.’
North Yorkshire Police have stated that they are unable to provide any further details as there has been no incident number provided by Royal Mail, and no exact time of when the incidents took place.
Royal Mail have been approached for comment.
