NORTH EAST NEWS: Woman, 81, dies after being hit by car at retail park

Police are appealing for witnesses after an 81-year-old woman died following a collision at Silverlink retail park in North Tyneside on Monday evening

An elderly woman has tragically lost her life after being struck by a car at a North East retail park. The police are urging witnesses to step forward as they probe into the fatal incident involving the 81 year old pedestrian.

The authorities were alerted about the collision at 5.10pm on Monday, December 22, with reports indicating that the elderly lady was hit by a white Renault Captur while crossing the road outside the Marks and Spencer outlet at the Silverlink retail park in North Tyneside. Emergency services rushed to the scene where the woman was found to have sustained severe injuries.

She was immediately transported to hospital for medical attention but sadly passed away on Tuesday. Her family has been informed of the tragic news.

The driver of the Captur stayed at the scene following the accident to cooperate with the police investigation, which is still ongoing. Sergeant Steven Chappell from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit expressed his condolences, stating: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are firmly with the loved ones of the woman who has sadly lost her life at this devastating time. Our investigation into the collision is very much ongoing and I would urge anyone with information on what took place to contact us.”

He added: “Specifically, we remain keen to hear from anyone with dash cam footage of the moments leading up to the incident. If you do have information which could help us, please get in touch so that we can ascertain exactly what happened.”, reports Chronicle Live.
