Nuneaton’s former Co-op has been transformed with a wave of colour

A wave of colour has swept across hoardings around Nuneaton’s former Co-op store – and it is all down to youngsters. They have been brightly painted to highlight artwork and poems of school children.

As part of the The Transforming Nuneaton Local Schools Competition 2021, they were asked to come up with artwork and poetry to decorate the dull hoardings on Abbey Street and Queens Road.

More than 200 school children took part and now the winners and runners up artwork has been put on display.

Much of the top part of Abbey Street is on the brink of a huge regeneration. It forms part of the over-arching Transforming Nuneaton programme, which will change the face of the town centre.

Works on the new Hilton hotel are set to kick-start the Abbey Street regeneration – and this is set to start soon. As well as the new Hilton hotel other plans for the Abbey Street car park include a new five-screen cinema, food hall and space for a new health centre within the area.

North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College also plans to use part of the former Co-op building on Abbey Street to house a new multi-million-pound digital skills and innovation hub and bistro.
