Old post office in Barrowby could have a new use

An application has been made to change the use of a former village post office.

Plans have been submitted to convert the old Barrowby post office in High Road into a one-bedroom home.

The proposal, submitted by K-Develo Limited, seeks to turn the old post office from commercial to residential use.

Barrowby post office closed in April.

There was ‘deep sadness’ when the post office closed in April of this year, with rising costs and fewer customers, coupled with Royal Mail issues, cited as reasons for the closure of a long-standing village post office.

Since announcing that Barrowby Post Office will close at the end of April, postmistress Jennifer Pinner has been overwhelmed by kindness from the village community.

In the application, Barrowby Parish Council said: “[We] support this application, but would like to see not only the post box ‘remaining in place’ but continuing to be an active post box for residents to post letters etc.”
