Oldham News | Main News | A very special delivery for extraordinary fund-raiser Abigail

Date published: 24 December 2020

A very special 11-year-old Oldham fund-raiser received her own ‘special delivery’ from Royal Mail this week.

After going through gruelling chemotherapy, brave Abigail wanted to raise funds for research into finding a kinder type of treatment for other people.

She has since been raising money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust and so far this year a stamp appeal has raised an amazing £6,618!

Alan Livingstone, the Oldham Delivery Office Manager, takes up the story.

He said: “Terri, a volunteer at the Bone Cancer Research Trust, contacted me for help in regards to how people could send Christmas cards to Abigail without making her address known to the public

“Terri told me Abigail’s story of how she had fought bone cancer and wished to raise the charity’s profile and had set up a Facebook group known as “Abigail’s Ambition”.

“I agreed all cards could be addressed to Royal Mail in Oldham and I would oversee the control of them.

“I also briefed all the posties at the Oldham delivery office about Abigail and they have really rallied round with support

“At Oldham we have had a collection and bought a surprise gift for Abigail.

“She is a truly brave young lady and a real inspiration to all of us.

“Organising this and supporting the stamp appeal is the least we could do for such a wonderful person.

“All of us at Oldham delivery office wish Abigail the fantastic Christmas that she deserves.”
