Olympian Helen Glover names twins and one has a Cornish twist

Cornwall’s Olympic gold medallist has finally announced the names of her newborn children and one of them has a distinctly Cornish twist.

Last week Cornwall Live reported that Helen Glover still hadn’t named her children despite the 33-year-old announcing the safe arrival of the twins on Twitter last month with an adorable photo of her newborn son and daughter’s feet.

The star, who married TV presenter Steve Backshall at Prussia Cove in 2016, gave birth to their first child, Logan James David Backshall, last year.

“We’re gonna need a bigger boat,” joked the rower, announcing the news.

She continued: “Welcome to the world little ones. Your big brother is already setting the tips for surviving 3 under 2 on a postcard please .”

Now, Helen, who was born and brought up in the Penance area has revealed the names of the latest two additions to the family.

She tweeted: “After a month of bliss and calling them ‘The Boy’ and ‘The Girl’ we have realised we should probably give them names. Logan would like to introduce you all to Kit Nathan Newlyn Backshall and Willow Bo Backshall.”

Helen and Steve met in 2014 on Sports Relief and they decided to start a family after their training schedules were relaxed following their sporting efforts.

Last year, the rower visited her golden postbox with her newborn baby boy.

The Royal Mail post box on Quay Street in Penzance was painted gold in 2012 in honour of Glover for her achievement in rowing.

Every time a British athlete wins a gold medal in the Olympics or Paralympics, the Royal Mail paints a post box gold in their home town.

Helen and her rowing partner Heather Stanning won Britain’s first gold medal at the London Olympics in 2012, and in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 they took gold again, becoming the first British female rowers to defend their Olympic crown.
