One Climb Too Many cyclist raises £2,300 for Macmillan

A cyclist from Barrow raised £2,300 for Macmillan Cancer Care after completing three cycling events in three weeks in a challenge called One Climb Too Many.

David Scrogham, a Royal Mail worker, completed the Tour de Manc on May 1, The Fred Whitton on May 8 and The Etape Du Dales on May 15.

This means that he cycled 333 miles over three weeks and climbed over 33,000 feet.

“I felt it on the third one,” he said. “Any one of the events would have been OK but by the time I finished The Etape Du Dales I was really tired.”

David did the fundraising challenge because Macmillan gave consistent support to his mum, who suffered from oesophageal cancer.

Just a week before he was due to start the Tour de Manc, she died.

“The timing was absolutely terrible,” he said. “I was hoping that my mum would watch. But her memory pushed me through the tough parts of the challenge.”

Donations are still open for his fundraiser: http://justgiving.com/fundraising/david-scrogham.

When asked about if he planned to do any more events in the future, he said: “I’m going to spend a couple of weeks recovering. No plans are set in stone but I want to do more in the future.”
