One of UK’s oldest postboxes found in Dorset village

Did you know one of the oldest working postboxes in the UK can be found in Dorset?

While the first iconic red pillar boxes were erected in Jersey in 1852, they later came to Britain the following year.

And still nestled in the village of Holwell is one of the first octagonal-shaped postboxes.

During an episode of the BBC’s Secret Dorset, resident Pat Bath explained how people travel from across the country to see the postbox.

Local postal worker Ryan Steer said members of the public frequently ask to take photos of him doing his rounds.

He added: “I feel weirdly lucky in a way, that I’m emptying the oldest postbox in the UK.”
