Ongoing Royal Mail cyber attack affecting Dorset post services

ROYAL Mail is continuing to experience severe service disruption to international export services following a cyber incident, affecting all Dorset Post Office branches.

The postal service is temporarily unable to despatch items to overseas destinations following a cyber-attack allegedly carried out by a ransomware gang linked to Russia.

Post Office branches in Dorset and the New Forest have reminded customers on social media and in store about the issues, for which there is no time frame on a solution being found.

Boscombe East and Ringwood’s Parsonage Barn Lane Post Office branches are among those to have sent communications reminding people of the issue.

A notice on the door of the Ringwood branch reads: “Due to [a] cyber incident, Royal Mail will not be accepting letters/parcels overseas until further notice. Any mail taken in [the] last few days is being held securely until this is resolved.”

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Items that have already been despatched may be subject to delays. We would like to sincerely apologise to impacted customers for any disruption this incident is causing.

“Parcelforce Worldwide export services are still operating to all international destinations though customers should expect minor delays. Royal Mail’s UK services are still operational.

“Our teams are continuing to work around the clock to resolve this disruption and we will update you as soon as we have more information.

“An investigation into the incident is ongoing and we are working with external experts. We have reported the incident to our regulators and the relevant security authorities.”
