Buying and selling stamps as a profession began in Europe. One of the earliest known Stamp collector/dealer pioneers was Jean-Baptiste Moens, a bookseller from Brussels, Belgium. He started collecting stamps in 1848, and about 1852 he became a dealer in postage stamps as well as books.
