Ormesby Royal Mail worker’s £4k ‘pride and joy’ bike nicked from garden shed

A Royal Mail worker has been left gutted after his £4k “pride and joy” bike was stolen from his garden shed.

Another family member’s bike was also pinched, along with some wheels during the theft that took place in the early hours of Monday, October 18.

Ian Tyerman, 48, realised his bikes had been stolen when he was taking his two daughters to school on Monday morning.

He said: “One of my daughters had spotted the shed doors were wide open and my heart just dropped.

“I went into the shed to find that my bike, my wife’s bike and some wheels were gone. Whoever did it stole about £5,000 worth of gear from my shed.

“I’d heard some noises so had a look outside in the early hours, but saw nothing then went back to bed. What I probably heard was them getting away with the bikes.”

Ian, who lives in the Sycamore Road area of Ormesby and works full time for the Royal Mail, said: “I only just started putting my bike in the shed the past few weeks and it was properly locked up, maybe I was blasé about it and should’ve put it in the house, but I didn’t expect it to be stolen at all.

“It’s just soul destroying and has really upset me. All those hours I put in at work to save money and it’s gone just like that.”

A keen cycler, he has asked on local cycling Facebook pages and selling websites such as Gumtree if anyone has seen his bikes, but to no avail. He described his bikes as his ‘pride and joy’.

“I’m out and about on my bike all the time and it’s my favourite thing in the world behind my family. I don’t smoke, I don’t drink so this is something I’m really passionate about and spend a lot of time on.”

If the bikes are found, Ian has set a £500 reward to the person who discovers where they are or even has any information on the whereabouts of the two bikes.

They’ve been told to contact Cleveland Police on 111, who received report of this incident last Monday.

The descriptions of the stolen items are:

  • Cannondale in matte black with red details on the seat and rear.
  • Boardman Hybrid bike in graphite/grey.
  • Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels

A spokesperson from Cleveland Police said: “A resident of Sycamore Road in Ormesby contacted police on the morning of Monday 18th October, reporting that at around 4am that day he had heard a noise outside his address however when he checked he couldn’t see anything suspicious.

“Later that morning he discovered his shed had been broken into and high value cycles and wheels had been stolen.

“Anyone with information, CCTV or dash cam footage, or anyone who may have seen these items for sale is asked to contact Cleveland Police via the 101 number on 101, quoting ref 176901.”

Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org or by phoning 0800 555 111.
