Outdoor gym kit and petanque pitch to be installed next to Witherley play park

Outdoor gym kit and a petanque pitch are to be installed in the playing fields in Witherley, near Hinckley.

The new additions will be sited next to the children’s play park, on Witherley Memorial Playing Field, on the corner of Post Office Lane and Church Road.

The amenities will include a pedal bicycle, a double slalom skier, a double pull up bar, and a cross trainer-style walker, while the petanque pitch wil be 12 metres by four metres in size.

A two metre all-weather green mesh path will also be put in, going along the length of the play area, parallel to Church Road, to provide disabled access to the play park and new facilities.

Outdoor gym equipment supplier Sunshine Gym will provide the machines.

Plans were recently approved for the former Atherstone Hunt stables and kennels, also in the village, to be redeveloped to into an estate of nine homes with garages and offices.

The buildings on Kennel Lane will be repurposed into a complex of six two-bedroom homes and a trio of three-bedroom properties.

An existing home on the site, known as The Bothy, will be demolished to make way for a new detached, three-bedroom home, while a former smithy will be turned into three home offices.
