Over 130 Lots to Feature in Hansons’ March Stamp Auction

Collectors and postal history enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting sale this March, as over 130 lots of stamps, collections and postal history go under the hammer at Hansons’ Derbyshire saleroom.

One of the standout sections of the auction is a superb run of Germany material offered across Lots 17 to 25. This impressive group includes Lot 24, a German Empire collection estimated at £500–£700, as well as Lot 25, which features Germany from 1946 onwards. Among the highlights is the highly sought-after 1949 Posthorn series in mint condition, alone catalogued at £2,600, making it a particularly attractive opportunity for serious collectors of post-war European issues.

Great Britain is equally well represented in the sale. Lot 66 comprises a well-filled Windsor Album estimated at £600–£1,000, including the iconic 1840 Penny Black and Twopenny Blue, embossed issues, and Queen Victoria values through to £1. It is a strong and comprehensive holding that will appeal to collectors seeking classic GB material. Further British interest can be found in Lot 119, estimated at £350–£500, which includes the much sought-after 1929 PUC £1 in mint condition, catalogued at £1,100.

A significant single-owner Commonwealth collection is offered across Lots 49 to 57. Lot 49 opens the section with a comprehensive album guided at £1,600–£2,000. The offering continues with a fabulous selection of high-profile stamps on Stanley Gibbons dealer cards, carefully assembled by the vendor. Meanwhile, Lot 61 presents two albums of Australia, New Zealand and the Cook Islands, estimated at £1,000–£1,200, providing further depth and variety from across the Commonwealth.

Additional material in the auction ensures there is something for collectors at every level. The sale includes Prestige Booklets, 15 single-country Davo albums, Royal Mail folded booklets, Smilers sheets, and more than 20 Harrington & Byrne folders complete with Certificates of Authenticity, offering both investment potential and collecting enjoyment.

The auction also features Lot 105, a Westminster Coin and First Day Covers collection that includes the St George and The Dragon Gold Sovereign Limited Edition cover with a 2001 Sovereign. Guided at £400–£500, it is expected to attract interest from both philatelic and numismatic buyers.
