Oxford United’s Boxing Day opponents Portsmouth postpone Wimbledon game

OXFORD United’s Boxing Day opponents Portsmouth have postponed tomorrow’s trip to AFC Wimbledon due to a Covid outbreak.

The Sky Bet League One fixture was called off following ‘a number of positive cases’ in Danny Cowley’s squad.

It means United will be the next side to play Pompey in nine days’ time.

Six of tomorrow’s League One fixtures have now been postponed due to Covid, with more than half of this weekend’s English Football League (EFL) games off because of the virus.

The EFL yesterday announced a stricter set of training ground protocols and an enhanced testing regime in a bid to minimise the spread of the Omicron variant.

United, who had a player and a staff member test positive yesterday, face Wigan Athletic at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow.
