Oxfordshire man fined thousands for breaching Covid-19 rules

A MAN has been fined nearly £2,000 after failing to self-isolate on his return from Romania.

Ioan Buta, of Slugworth Lane, Abingdon, appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court after he was caught not out of quarnatine in March.

Court documents said he continued to leave his house on a daily basis.

His actions were contrary to regulations 4(2) and 6(1)(b) and (4) of the Health Protection (Coronavirus, International Travel) (England) Regulations 2020.

In England, if a person breaches international quarantine restrictions fines start at £1,000 – for a first offence – and can increase up to £10,000 for repeat offences.

The 29-year old was fined £1,760, made to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £120 and costs of £85.
