Paisley Posties jobs may be in jeopardy after the Royal Mail announced it will create up to 6,000 surplus jobs across the UK.
The company, which was sold by the Conservative/Liberal Democrat government to private investors less than a decade ago, said it would cut about 10,000 dollars in total.
The remaining 4,000 job cuts will be brought about by not replacing workers who leave.
The Royal Mail could not confirm how many jobs would be lost in Renfrewshire.

The company says it has incurred an operating loss of 219 million pounds so far this year and expects adjusted operating losses for the full year to be around 350 million pounds.
It made a profit of £758m last year.

Royal Mail CEO Simon Thompson said: “I regret to announce the job losses.
“We will do everything we can to avoid forced layoffs and support all those affected.”

The company was eager to blame striking employees from the Communications Workers’ Union (CWU) for the decline in profits.
Mr. Thompson continued: “Every day of the strike weakens our financial position.
“The CWU’s decision to opt for a decision strike unfortunately increases the risks of further staff cuts.”
However, union bosses, who have struggled for wage increases that take into account the cost-of-living crunch, responded and said company mismanagement was to blame for declining profits.
CWU General Secretary Dave Ward said: “This announcement is the result of gross mismanagement and a failed agenda to end daily deliveries, the wholesale settlement of postal workers’ terms, salaries and conditions, and the transformation of Royal Mail into a temporary economy style parcel post.
What the company should do is abandon its asset divestment strategy.
“The CWU is calling an urgent meeting with the Board of Directors and will present an alternative action plan at that meeting.
This announcement ransoms postal workers for taking legal industrial action against a commercial approach that is not in the interest of workers, customers, or the future of Royal Mail. This is not a way to build a company.”

CWU Secretary for Scotland Craig Anderson said: “There is no indication how the announcement from the Royal Mail will affect Scotland or locally, or indeed if it will affect us here because, from the documents I’ve seen from the Royal Mail, they estimate the amount of job cuts.” .
Paisley flyers have been seen on strike outside the city’s Underwood Road depot in recent months as they continue their fight for better pay and conditions.
One worker – who had gone on strike last month and did not wish to be named – told the Paisley Daily Express: “We are in a cost-of-living crisis and yet out here we are forced to fight for a real wage commensurate with the real price of living during this recession.
The country is on its knees.
“Garbage workers, the NHS, the teachers, they are all struggling and it’s time to acknowledge this.”
