Part of busy Swindon junction reopens following crash

A busy road in Swindon has been closed this morning following a crash.

Thamesdown Drive was partly closed at the junction with Elstree Way close to the Toby Carvery.

Emergency services were responding to a road traffic collision.

The junction has since reopened.

When asked to comment, a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said earlier this morning (Saturday, April 2): “We are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on Thamesdown Drive, close to the junction with Elstree Way.

“We were called to the incident at around 8.50am today (02/04) and there are some road closures in place while emergency services are in attendance.”

It has been a difficult morning on the roads for motorists, after the M4 was closed for several hours westbound following a crash between two lorries.

The carriageway was closed from junction 15 to 16 after the collision which caused ‘significant barrier damage’ and also shut two lanes of the eastbound carriageway.

The road has since reopened.
