PCS in Solidarity 22 December

Transport

Today (22) RMT members working as cleaners for a number of rail companies are taking action, as well as members who are security staff working for Eurostar.

Members of Unite who work at the 11 Highlands and Islands airports in Scotland will take their second day of strike action today.

RMT members at Network Rail will be taking more strike action over the Christmas period, with members walking out from 6pm on 24 December until 7am on 27 December.

A 72 hour strike by ground handlers employed by Menzies at Heathrow airport was suspended following an improved pay offer. Unite are balloting members on the pay offer, and if rejected, they will strike from December 29 – 1 January.

Distribution

On 23 and 24 December CWU members who are postal workers for Royal Mail will be striking again. Royal Mail has hired thousands of agency workers to help process the backlog caused by the ongoing dispute.

Unite members working for distribution company Arrow XL have been on all-out strike since 9 December in their dispute over pay which began in October. Many of the workers are only paid the minimum wage, with other workers paid just above £9.50 an hour.

Health

On 28 December ambulance workers and other NHS staff in England and Wales will strike again in their dispute over pay, in a strike coordinated by the GMB, Unison and Unite. This follows the first day of action on 21 December.

Nurses in Scotland have voted to reject their pay offer and strike action is due to begin in the new year. 82% of members rejected the pay offer in the ballot that closed on Monday (19).  Royal College of Midwives (RCM) members in Scotland also rejected the deal, and the union says it is considering industrial action.
