RESIDENTS of Romsey flocked to the streets yesterday in celebration of Romsey Carnival’s return for the first time since 2019.

The carnival took place Saturday, July 16, at Romsey Industrial Estate, before moving to Market Place, with judging beginning at 4.30pm.

It saw performances from pageant walkers, Romsey Old Cadets and Swan Samba, before organised teams took part in a bed race.

Smith Bradbeers proudly sponsored the event, which saw floats, jugglers, a marching band and pageant walkers taking to the streets of Romsey to perform, with a parade taking place at 6pm.

Guests also enjoyed a bed race and a mini funrun, with Royal Mail and Romsey Cadets becoming star of the show.

A total of 17 entries took part, with the Star Inn, Little Family and First Ampfield Brownies taking the winning trophies.

Event organiser Sylvia Finch said: “It was lovely to see so many smiling faces. This is the first time it’s happened since 2019 and it’s been a really good turn out.

“It’s been lovely and all we wanted to do is get the town smiling and it’s lovely to have been able to do that.

“Everything we have done seems to have been really appreciated. It’s great to have the community smiling. We really appreciate the community joining in with us”

All money raised is currently being counted and a final announcement is to be made.
