Physician retires after 39 years in long-term care

Bruce County Long Term Care & Senior Services recently celebrated Dr. Johannes Van Dorp, who has retired after 39 years of service to the Gateway Haven Long Term Care home in Wiarton. Dr. Van Dorp officially retired on July 2, 2024.

Director Megan Garland shared the following message of gratitude at the retirement celebration in Wiarton:

“It is both an honour and a bittersweet moment to celebrate the remarkable career of Dr. Van Dorp. After an incredible 39 years of dedicated service to Gateway Haven, Dr. Van Dorp leaves behind a legacy of compassion, excellence, and unwavering commitment to our residents’ well-being.

Your dedication, Dr. Van Dorp, has been an inspiration to us all. You’ve worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to improve the lives of those in our care. Your compassionate bedside manner, and ability to make everyone feel heard and valued, have set a high standard for us to follow.

While we will miss your presence, we are excited for you to enjoy retirement. May your retirement be filled with joy, relaxation, and health.
