Plan to ‘remove barriers’ for Guernsey’s online shoppers

The myUKaddress service is free to sign up to, Guernsey Post has confirmed [BBC]

A new initiative designed to make online shopping easier and more accessible for islanders has been launched, Guernsey Post has said.

The service, known as myUKaddress and launched on Thursday by Guernsey Post, provides island residents with a unique UK delivery address which they can use for their online purchases.

It means they can shop from retailers who do not currently ship to the Channel Islands.

Cassandra Fish, head of commercial at Guernsey Post, said the service would be free to sign up for and that its aim was to remove the “barriers” of online shopping.

‘Straightforward’

She said: “We know that a frustration of island life is trying to shop online and finding out at checkout – or worse, days later – that the item you want is restricted to mainland delivery.

“Our new UK hub removes this barrier for island customers by offering a UK address.

“Once items arrive at the hub, we ship these to Guernsey and deliver these together with our regular parcel service.

“Signing up to myUKaddress is completely free, and after that we’ve introduced a simple, straightforward pricing structure for each parcel.”

Once items are received at the UK parcel hub, which is based in Portsmouth, they are then shipped to Guernsey and delivered by local Posties.

In addition myUKaddress, Guernsey Post has confirmed it will also be launching an another initiative known as RockShopper.

A spokesperson for the postal company said it would offer an extensive list of online retailers that either deliver directly to Guernsey or that can be accessed using the new myUKaddress service.

Key features will include highlighting stores that deduct VAT at the checkout for Guernsey residents, free delivery options and retailers offering easy returns.
