Plans for new takeaway on Rawlinson Street

The proposal, lodged by Mr Muzzafor Ali, asks to turn the currently disused site at 331 unit 3 Rawlinson Street into a “hot food takeaway”, according to the planning application.

The type of takeaway was not named in the planning application.

The planning statement submitted as part of the application reads: “The builging appears to have been unoccupied since at least 2016, contributing to underutilised space within this prominent area.

“The immediate surroundings are predominantly commercial in nature, featuring a mix of uses that contribute to the vibrancy of the area.

“Notable uses include the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel and the Royal Mail Collection Office.”

There is also a Tesco and “other commercial premises” as part of the wider commercial unit. Resident properties are located to the south.

According to the application, the only external alterations include a small extraction flue on the front and back of the building.

A kitchen, cold room and storage areas “suitable for a takeaway” will be installed within the property.

The statement further reads: “The proposal hot food takeaway will generate employment opportunities and contribute to the town centre’s economic activity.

“Its location supports both daytime and evening footfall, strengthening the vibrancy of the area and providing a valuable service to the community.”

The planning statement also reads: “The site benefits from excellent accessibility. It is near Barrow-in-Furness train station, providing convenient transport links for residents, employees and visitors.”

If approved, the takeaway will be open seven days a week with opening hours of 5pm-12am for week days, weekends and bank holidays.

There will be four or five staff employed to work in the business. Customers and deliveries will use the shared car park for the retail park outside the nearby Tesco.

The planning application reads: “Waste collection and bins are already designed outside the commercial unit and will be used by the applicant. Waste collection is every Thursday.”

The consultation is set to end September 30.
