Police block part of Potteries Way roundabout as driver taken to Royal Stoke

One lane of a busy roundabout remains coned off this afternoon after a crash. Sand has been put down on the carriageway and cobbles have been displaced on the roundabout linking Waterloo Road, Potteries Way and Hope Street, in Hanley.

The temporary repair work means traffic travelling down Waterloo Road can now no longer turn right into Hope Street.

It comes after a Vauxhall Astra crashed into the roundabout at 11.15pm on Saturday, April 13. Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service attended the crash scene and the 39-year-old Stoke-on-Trent driver was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital following the collision.

The driver has since been charged with dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, and driving without a licence. He is due to appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre on 9 May.

Paramedics reached the crash scene within three minutes of receiving their 999 call.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of the A50 and Potteries Way. Crews discovered one car had come off the road and been involved in a collision. The driver, a man, was treated by medics for minor injuries and taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further checks.”
