Police called to illegal rave as 200 partygoers descend on beauty spot

Two men were arrested on suspicion of drug driving following the party at Liverpool Castle

Two people were today being questioned on suspicion of drug driving after 200 people attended an ‘illegal rave’ at a beauty spot near Bolton. Police were called to Liverpool Castle, in Rivington, near Horwich, at 1.18am this morning.

Residents living close to the scene reported hearing loud music between midnight and 2am with reports of lights, lasers and drones’ all disrupting the local environment. Police dispersed the crowd and arrested a 21-year-old man from Burnley and a 34-year-old man from Stockport.


A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We were called to Rivington Lane, Rivington, at 1.18am today (October 27) following multiple calls about an illegal rave. Our officers attended and found around 200 people present,as well as loud music, lights, lasers and drones.

“Although the majority of people dispersed when our officers arrived, we dispersed those who remained from the area. Two people were arrested on suspicion of drug driving and remain in custody at this time.”


The site was tidied up by volunteers from the Horwich Clean Up Brigade by 9.30am.
