POLICE CARRY OUT CLASS A DRUG SEARCHES AT ROYAL MAIL DEPOTS – Island Echo

Police on the Isle of Wight have carried out an operation to target the supply of Class A drugs being distributed through the postal service.

Officers have today (Wednesday) visited Royal Mail’s sorting offices at Newport and Ryde in a bid to crack down on the supply of drugs to the Island.

Newport’s Neighbourhood Policing Team and a local dog unit have been involved in the visits at both Riverway and Nicholson Road.

The operation has also been used to enhance the training of working dogs in this line of work.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:

“An effective response to drugs networks and county lines demands real collaboration. Hampshire Constabulary works closely with other agencies in both the public and private sectors, as well as the local community, to tackle the supply of drugs.

“If you have information about drugs supply in your area, please report this to us on 101. Alternatively you can report it anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111”.
