Police helicopter over Stoke-on-Trent captures BMW driver, 17

Police have made an arrest

A police helicopter was deployed over Stoke-on-Trent overnight. The chopper had been spotted over Park Hall Country Park and was on a training mission.

But the plane was later deployed to help capture a 17-year-old BMW driver.

An arrest was completed by Staffordshire Road Crime Team. A police dog discovered the BMW keys in a garden.

The teenager has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop as well as having no licence and no insurance.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “A BMW failed to stop for us in Stoke-on-Trent. But what the driver didn’t bank on was that training flights were being conducted overhead. They followed until the driver decamped and was arrested. We were astonished to find he was only 17 years old. The vehicle was recovered and the keys located in a nearby garden.”
