Police investigating alleged rape in Henbury arrest man

Detectives have arrested a man in connection with an alleged rape in Bristol yesterday. Police cordoned off the green in Henbury in the early hours of the morning.

Police were called to Crow Lane some time after midnight on Saturday (April 29). They cordoned off a large grassed area in front of the Co-op store and stationed officers around the scene.

Now a man has been arrested as part of the investigation and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Avon and Somerset Police issued a statement on Sunday morning saying: “A 38-year-old man has been arrested as part of an ongoing rape investigation. The investigation is ongoing and a police cordon was in place in the area yesterday.”

The force did not specify what the man had been arrested on suspicion of. Residents were shocked to wake up to the police tape on Saturday morning but police reassured them it they were treating it as an “isolated incident”.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police added: “The man has been released on police bail as we continue enquiries.

“Officers are providing support to the victim, and she is being offered specialist help and advice from trained professionals. We are appealing for witnesses who may have any information, or any relevant CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage, to call us.”
