Police issue update after bomb squad locked down area due to ‘items’

The bomb squad raced to a residential street in North Lanarkshire after a ‘potential historic ordnance’ was found inside a property.

Emergency crews were alerted to the discovery at an address on Branchalfield Drive, Cambusnethan, Wishaw at around 7.30pm on Friday, January 24, 2025.

Police and specialist officers then rushed to the scene and erected a cordon in the area.

Following that, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team assessed the items.

Police have now revealed no further action was required and the cordon has since been removed.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Emergency services attended at a property on Branchalfield Drive, Cambusnethan, Wishaw, on Friday, January 24, 2025, following a report of items of potential historic ordnance having been found within.

“Explosive Ordnance Disposal attended to assess the items.

“No further action was required and the cordon has been lifted.”
