Police name Southend man accused of death by dangerous driving after woman dies

Police have named a man who has been accused of causing the death of a woman in Southend. Lee Rance, of Frobisher Way in Shoeburyness has been charged by police following the fatal incident on Tuesday (May 20).

The 43-year-old has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, possession of a Class A drug, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He was remanded in custody and will appear today, Thursday May 22, at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court.

Police were called to a single-vehicle collision in Royal Artillery Way shortly before 11.30pm on Tuesday after a woman, aged in her 30s, was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Since her hospitalisation, the woman has died. Her family have been informed and are being supported.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “Anyone with information or relevant footage should contact us as soon as possible. Please cite incident 1315 of May 20.”
