Devon and Cornwall Police have shut down rumours of an attempted child abduction in Cornwall this morning (Wednesday).
A post appeared on X (formerly Twitter ) at around 9.30am on Wednesday morning claiming a “very young girl” had been found at a Cornwall petrol station, “terrified” after a man had allegedly tried to drag her into a car – and that the police would not attend the incident.
However, Devon and Cornwall Police have now taken to Facebook and X to confirm that these reports are not true – and clarified that they instead responded to reports of a drunk woman trying to break into cars in Hayle.

Their post read: “We are aware of a post on social media that reports an attempted child abduction in Cornwall. We would like to reassure the public that this is not true.
“We were called to the Loggans area of Hayle at 7am this morning, to an intoxicated adult female, who had been attempting to get into nearby cars. She has been taken into the care of ambulance staff.”
The original post, which police were responding to, read: “This morning a very young girl has been found wandering around a petrol station, terrified and saying a man tried to drag her in to a car. The police wouldn’t come out. They’re there now with her, but my God. This is Cornwall for Gods sake.
“Our young are still happily wandering about not realising how exponentially we have changed in less than 3 years. A few weeks ago a young girl was dragged in to a shop, countless reports in Truro of young girls being approached and dragged in to cars. How many of our young females have to face either entirely changing their lives, or life altering abuses?”
