Post Office branch in Shenfield marked for closure could be saved and moved down the road

A Post Office branch in Essex which has been earmarked for closure with a Morrisons store shutting could be saved and moved further down the road. The Post Office inside the Morrisons Daily store at Shenfield Broadway next to the station is due to shut on Sunday April 13.

It comes after the news of Morrisons announcing a wave of store closures across the UK, with the Daily store in Shenfield being the only Essex store affected, with it closing on April 16. Initially, the Post Office said the branch would shut along with the store and a review of services would be carried out.

However, it has now said the branch could move into the Morrisons Daily store further down on Hutton Road, and a vacancy listing will soon be posted online.

A spokesman for the Post Office said: “We have been informed by Morrisons that they have made the difficult decision to close the Morrisons Daily store where Shenfield Broadway Post Office is located. The store is due to close on 16 April and Shenfield Broadway Post Office will close on Sunday 13 April at 5.30pm.

“We apologise for the short notification. We fully recognise the inconvenience this will be for our customers. There are nearby branches at Woodland, Rayleigh and Brentwood.

“We want to maintain a Post Office in Shenfield Broadway. We are currently working with our retail partner, Morrisons who have suggested that the branch could move to their store on Hutton Road, CM15 8NB. The vacancy will soon be advertised on our website www.runapostoffice.co.uk where other retailers can also express interest in operating this branch.”

There are no other Post Office branches in Shenfield, but other nearby locations are:
