Post Office in Barwell to close while One Stop store becomes Tesco Express

The One Stop shop in Barwell is to close for several weeks while the store is converted into a Tesco Express.

This means the Post Office within the store, on Moore Road, is also to shut while the works take place.

The service is set to resume once the shop reopens though.

Managers hope the fresh look for the store will provide a better selection for customers.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We are converting our One Stop Moore Road store to a Tesco Express store.

“We believe the Express brand will better serve the Barwell community, offering a broader range of both branded and Tesco own brand products, as well as more fresh food and food to go.

“We’d like to reassure residents that the Post Office and its services will remain in the new Tesco Express store.”

A notice about the project was issued by the Post Office and shared by Barwell Parish Council.

Daniel Rooney, Post Office partner account manager, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers during the work.

“The safety of our customers is paramount, therefore, to allow for the building work to take place, it will be necessary for the service to close temporarily.”

Customers will still be able to access services locally at the branch on High Street, in the village, and at the Premier store, in Earl Shilton.

The shop as a whole will be closed from January 2 and will reopen as a Tesco Express on January 20, at 9am.

The Post Office will close a week earlier than the store, on December 24, due to audit work that the Post Office has to complete.
