Christmas is done and dusted for another year and it’s time to look ahead to 2023, with the New Year celebrations on the horizon.

However, you might need to post something out to a friend or relative, or pick up a missed delivery – and with post being delayed due to strikes and Christmas, the post office could well find itself busy following the festive season.

But before you head on out, it’s a good idea to check the opening times, since they are different over the new year.

Here’s when they’ll be open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day…

Post Office opening times for New Year’s Eve

Opening times can vary branch to branch, and so it is recommended that you find your local opening hours by using the Branch Finder tool.

New Year’s Eve: As New Year’s Eve is not a bank holiday it’s likely Post Offices will be open as usual – but they may well close earlier.

You should check the website to confirm what time your local branch shuts up on shop on New Year’s Eve before heading out.

New Year’s Day: The ‘majority’ of Post Offices across the UK will be closed – you should once again check the website to see if yours is among them.

January 2: As January 2 is a bank holiday this year (being a substitute New Year’s Day as it falls on a Sunday), the majority of Post Offices are once again likely to be closed.

January 3: Post Offices should once again be open as normal except in Scotland where there is a bank holiday (the substitute day for the regular January 2 bank holiday).

January 4: Deliveries and collections return to normal

New Year’s Eve: Deliveries as normal, but collections only for customers who have an ‘Eve’ collection

New Year’s Day: There will be no deliveries or collections

January 2: As it’s a bank holliday, there will be no deliveries or collections on this date either.

January 3: Normal deliveries and collections, except in Scotland where there is a bank holiday
