Bermuda residents can once again send mail containing goods to the United States from the General Post Office.
The Bermuda Post Office said that customers will be required to pay the applicable US tariff based on the country of origin of the manufactured item being shipped.
A spokesman said: “To facilitate this process, customers are encouraged to download BPO’s mobile app, Zonos Prepay, to their Android or Apple device.
“The app will guide users step by step through the declaration process, ensuring accurate calculation of the required tariff before the mail item is presented to the post office for shipment.
“Mail items containing printed matter, such as calendars, will also be accepted as bona fide customer-to-customer gifts, provided the value is under $100.
“The BPO is pleased to resume this expanded parcel service and remains committed to providing affordable, efficient, reliable and customer-focused postal solutions to the public.”
Customers were encouraged to visit bermudapost.bm for more information, including links to the Zonos Prepay app.
The BPO announced in August that it had suspended shipping packages to the US in the wake of the removal of duty-free exemptions for parcels valued under $800.
The step was described as a temporary precaution to prevent customers from facing unexpected costs, delays or returned items.
