Post Office services could be on the move if residents back plan

Post Office services in a Leicester suburb could be on the move if residents back a new plan. The operator of the service at 19-21 Main Street, Evington, could be incorporated into their existing business in Welland Vale Road, more than a mile away.

A Post Office spokesperson said the move would see nine more hours of services across the week, including, for the first time, on Saturdays. They added that the postmaster believed the move would ensure “future sustainability of both their business and the Post Office service” in Evington.

The proposal also includes a full refurbishment of the Welland Vale Road site to incorporate both businesses. A Post Office serving point would be located at the store’s retail counter, while access to the new combined premises would feature a wide door and ramp with handrail, the spokesperson said.

A hearing loop and space for a wheelchair would also be provided. The new site does not have its own parking, but spaces are available in the area, according to officials. They said the new site was also served by buses.

The proposed opening hours of the new Post Office counter are:

  • Monday to Friday: 9am to 6pm (Currently 9am to 1.15pm and 1.45pm to 5.30pm)
  • Saturdays: 9am to 1pm (Currently closed)
  • Sundays: Closed (No change)

A consultation on the proposed move has been launched, and closes on Thursday, June 13. People can take part on the Post Office Views website with branch code 195217. Alternatively, email comments@postoffice.co.uk or call 03452 66 01 15.
