Post Office to close on Washington Crescent, Newton Aycliffe

An ‘unplanned’ closure of the post office in Washington Crescent, Newton Aycliffe was announced in a letter from Royal Mail, who say the venue will shut on September 22.

In a letter to residents, Royal Mail said: “Regrettably, following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use, the above branch will be closing on Monday, September 22 at 5pm.

The impending closure will leave Newton Aycliffe with three post office stores, on Beveridge Way, Silverdale Place and the Trading Estate.

However, Royal Mail said it was looking for someone to open another office in the area, writing: “The provision of a Post Office service to our customers in the local community is important to us, and we will continue to work hard to restore services in the area as soon as possible.

“We would welcome any applications from potential retail partners interested in running a branch locally on our behalf.”

The branch, located inside a Morrison’s shop, will continue to operate as usual until September 22.
