ANGRY householders have told of their fury over months of postal delays, with some letters and parcels taking two weeks to be delivered.
In September residents of Great Western Park in Didcot accused Royal Mail of only delivering letters and parcels on allocated days due to the pandemic.
But Royal Mail denied this accusation and said services in the area were running as normal. Now, people living in the area are reporting similar problems and many are waiting two weeks for their post to be delivered.
On the community Facebook page Spotted: Didcot people have been voicing their concerns.
Julia Vallejo said: “Several times my parcels haven’t arrived and sometimes the post take ages to arrive. I am not sure what is going on. I tried to contact Royal Mail, but they put me on hold for so long that I gave up.”
Jane Morgan said: “I went to the sorting office on Friday, I was told post is coming out to GWP every day.
“I then gave my address, and he gave me all my post, there was loads of it. He then told me they are really short staffed.”
Didcot resident Daniel Anderton said she was left without contact lenses for a week, but her Amazon parcels arrive on time. She said: “I have reported the issues many times to Royal Mail, but I and others just receive a standard Covid-based response. The post is stuck in Didcot sorting office. They’re clearly understaffed but with Christmas coming it’s very concerning especially as we can’t even collect it from the sorting office.”
A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “Throughout this crisis, every decision we make puts the health of our people and customers first. We have been working hard to deliver the most comprehensive service we can in challenging circumstances. We have put even more resources into the operation, including increased overtime spend, to keep delivering across the UK.
“From the start of this crisis, we have always said that despite our best endeavours, it is possible that some areas of the country may experience a reduction in service levels due to coronavirus-related absences and necessary social distancing requirements. We always endeavour to keep our customers as informed as we can of any changes to our services. We have a dedicated section on our website royalmail.com/coronavirus.”
