POSTAL services in Wokingham will be disrupted this week after the old Post Office site on Broad Street flooded.
Crews from three fire stations were called to the town centre site on Monday morning, and a team from energy company SSE also attended.
Royal Mail, which still uses the site as a sorting office, said they would work to keep any delays to deliveries to a minimum.
It was the basement that flooded, and the cause has yet to be determined.
Vans were being loaded on Broad Street to ensure some deliveries could be made.
A spokesperson for Royal Mail said: “Work is ongoing to bring the office back to full operational capacity and to ensure the site is safe for employees.
“There will be some disruption to deliveries in the area over the next few days, however every effort is being made to ensure any delays are kept to a minimum.
“We thank customers in the area for their patience, if anyone has concerns about the delivery of their mail, please contact Royal Mail customer service on 03457 740 740 or via www.royalmail.com.”
A spokesperson for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 6.22am on Monday, July 17, we received reports of an incident on Broad Street in Wokingham.
“Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wokingham Road, Wokingham and Bracknell fire stations were sent to the scene.
“Upon arrival, crews discovered flooding in a basement. Firefighters secured the scene and isolated the building’s electrical and gas supplies.”
And an SSE spokesperson said: “Following a call from the local fire service this morning, our teams have attended the property and have isolated the supply there.”
